According to sources, the lack of support for end-user demand remains the main obstacle to the HRC price hikes announced by some producers at the end of August.
European producers are targeting €700 ($755) per tonne ex-works or ex-delivery for October HRC, depending on the region.
At the same time, some producers continue to sell HRC at €650-660 per tonne ex-works, sources said, adding that deals were concluded at this level in Germany this week.
The local hot rolled coil index, excluding Northern Europe, decreased by €3.84 per tonne from €659.17 per tonne on September 4 to €655.33 per tonne on September 5.
However, the index increased by €4.94 per tonne on a weekly basis and €9.50 per tonne on a monthly basis.
The local hot rolled coil steel index for Italy was down €2.91 per tonne from €638.33 per tonne on 4 September to €635.42 per tonne on 5 September.
