The Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) announced production, export and market data for the January-August period of 2026.
According to OSD data, total automotive production in the first eight months of the year declined by 7.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, falling to 841,583 units. Automobile production, meanwhile, decreased by approximately 19% to 458,169 units. Including tractor production, total production was recorded at 854,860 units.
Commercial vehicle production increased by 12% year on year during the same period. Production in the heavy commercial vehicle group rose by 7%, while light commercial vehicle production increased by 12%.
The capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry stood at 59%. The capacity utilization rate was 60% for light vehicles, 57% for the truck group, 67% for the bus and midibus group, and 27% for tractors.
Automotive exports reached $27.2 billion
In the January-August period, automotive exports decreased by 12% year on year in terms of units, falling to 597,594 units. Automobile exports declined by 28%, while commercial vehicle exports increased by 9%. Tractor exports also rose by 14% to 8,245 units.
According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly, the automotive industry maintained its leadership in the sectoral ranking, accounting for a 17% share of Türkiye’s total exports. The value of automotive exports increased by 2.5% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching $27.2 billion.
According to data from the Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters' Association, automobile exports decreased by 9% in value terms to $6.8 billion. Main industry exports increased by 1%, while supply industry exports rose by 4%.
Total market contracted by 12%
Türkiye’s automotive market decreased by 12% year on year in the first eight months of the year, falling to 745,597 units. The automobile market also declined by 14% to 564,241 units.
During the same period, the total commercial vehicle market contracted by 5%, the light commercial vehicle market by 4%, and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 7%. The share of domestically produced vehicles in automobile sales stood at 35%, while the domestic share in the light commercial vehicle market was 23%.
