Brazil’s scrap exports & imports fall in February

According to statistics from the Brazil Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), Brazil exported around 32,000 tons of scrap in February this year, dropping by 15.7% compared to the previous month but rising by 36% from the same month a year ago.

In the first two months of this year, Brazil’s scrap exports amounted to around 70,400 tons, a year-on-year increase of 65%. Among them, the exports to Bangladesh accounted for the largest proportion at 36%, followed by India’s 24% and Belgium’s 12%.

In terms of imports, the volume totaled around 2,500 tons in February, down by 6.7% month on month and by 96% year on year.

The imports in the January-February period reached approximately 5,200 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 95%. Of these imports, scrap from Bolivia occupied a share of 41%, followed by Germany’s 29% and Paraguay’s 10%.
