World crude steel production decreased by 0.3% in July

According to data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), total crude steel production of the 70 reporting countries reached 149.2 million tonnes in July 2026. The 70 countries in question accounted for approximately 98% of global crude steel production in 2025.

Production in Asia and Oceania Decreased by 1.2%

In July, crude steel production in Africa increased by 6.1% year-on-year to 2 million tonnes. Production in Asia and Oceania, meanwhile, decreased by 1.2% to 109.4 million tonnes.

Crude steel production in the EU (27) countries increased by 3.8% to 10.5 million tonnes during the same period, while production in other European countries outside the EU increased by 5.8% to 3.7 million tonnes.

Production in the Middle East decreased by 13.4% to 3.8 million tonnes, while North America's production increased by 4.9% to 9.6 million tonnes. Total production in Russia and other CIS countries and Ukraine increased by 2.2% to 6.7 million tonnes, while South America's production increased by 2.8% to 3.6 million tonnes.

China's Crude Steel Production Decreased by 3.6%

China, the world's largest crude steel producer, produced 76.9 million tonnes in July 2026. The country's production decreased by 3.6% compared with the same month last year.

India, the second-largest producer, increased its crude steel production by 1.9% to 14.4 million tonnes, while US production increased by 4.4% to 7.4 million tonnes. Japan produced 6.9 million tonnes of crude steel, up 0.4%.

Russia's estimated crude steel production increased by 3.3% to 5.7 million tonnes, while South Korea's production increased by 6.4% to 5.7 million tonnes.

Türkiye ranked as the world's seventh-largest crude steel producer in July 2026, producing 3.4 million tonnes of crude steel. Türkiye's production increased by 7% compared with the same month last year.

Germany's estimated production increased by 3% to 2.8 million tonnes, while Brazil's production increased by 0.1% to 2.8 million tonnes. Among the top 10 producers, the highest year-on-year production increase was recorded in Vietnam. Vietnam's crude steel production increased by 34.7% to 2.7 million tonnes.
