Türkiye’s crude steel production increased by 7% in July

Türkiye’s total crude steel production in the January-July 2026 period increased by 7.9% to 23.2 million tonnes. According to worldsteel’s production data for the period from January through July, Türkiye became the world’s 7th-largest crude steel producer with 23.2 million tonnes of production.

Global production declined by 0.3%

In July 2026, total crude steel production across 70 countries worldwide amounted to 149.2 million tonnes. Global production declined by 0.3% compared to July 2025.

In the January-July period, total crude steel production in these countries decreased by 0.6% to 1.0812 billion tonnes.

Türkiye ranked 7th among the top 10 producers

China was the world’s largest crude steel producer in July, with 76.9 million tonnes. China’s production declined by 3.6% year-on-year.

China was followed by India with 14.4 million tonnes, the US with 7.4 million tonnes, Japan with 6.9 million tonnes, Russia with 5.7 million tonnes and South Korea. Türkiye ranked 7th on the list with 3.4 million tonnes of production.

In July, Germany produced 2.8 million tonnes of crude steel, Brazil 2.8 million tonnes and Vietnam 2.7 million tonnes, following Türkiye.

Türkiye’s production growth exceeded Europe’s

Total crude steel production in the 27 member states of the European Union increased by 3.8% in July 2026 to 10.5 million tonnes. Production in other European countries increased by 5.8% to 3.7 million tonnes.

Türkiye’s 7% increase in production was higher than the growth rates recorded in the European Union and other European countries during the same period.

Production increased throughout the first seven months

Türkiye’s crude steel production increased year-on-year in each of the first seven months of 2026. Annual production growth started at 5.8% in January, followed by 3.4% in February, 6.4% in March, 9.4% in April, 8.9% in May and 14.7% in June. In July, production increased by 7%. Thus, Türkiye produced more crude steel in each month of the first seven months of 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year.
