ArcelorMittal Spain resumes limited longs production

ArcelorMittal Spain is resuming activities at its Gijón steelworks on Friday, Kallanish learns from the company. The steelmaker is restarting long steel production, although limited to 55,000 tonnes/month, compared to the normal capacity of 75,000 t/m. This is due to still costly energy in Spain and reduced supplies of raw materials.
The Gijón steelworks’ production will initially be carried out through a single converter and production increases will be based on demand developments.
It is understood that ArcelorMittal’s wire rod plant should produce almost 37,000 t/m from 3 April, while the rail mill division will resume output on the following day with 18,000 t/m capacity.
The steel company plans to carry out its annual maintenance work at the Asturias unit between 3 and 30 August.
