In a recent report released by the Iranian Steel producers Association(ISPA), it has been revealed that Iran's steel exports witnessed substantial growth in the year 2022. The country exported a total of 3 million 199 thousand tons of flat steel and long steel products, along with a staggering 7 million 372 thousand tons of semi-finished products.
China by 24 % and Indonesia followed by 22% are the main destinations of semi finished products. This data underscores the significance of China and Indonesia as key trading partners for Iran in the steel industry. Thailand and the United Arab Emirates also accounting for 12% of the mentioned products. Additionally, Oman received 9% of the total exports in this category in the same year. A large part of the remaining 21% was also exported to Turkey, Ghana and Iraq.
Furthermore, Iran's flat steel products found their way to other neighboring countries as well. Last year, Iraq was the destination of 28% and UAE accounted for 36% of the country's flat steel products exports. 8% of these products were exported to Afghanistan, with 11% jointly entering the markets of Pakistan and Armenia. The remaining 17% ventured to diverse destinations, reflecting Iran's increasing presence and competitiveness in the global steel market.
Last year, Iraq was the destination of 60% of the country's long steel products exports, and Turkey, Turkmenistan, Armenia and Georgia are in the next positions by a long distance.
