In the second half of August, Türkiye's rebar market continued to face unfavorable conditions. Steel producers are facing serious challenges due to rising production costs and falling demand both domestically and internationally. This is also keeping local prices under pressure.
Local rebar prices have generally hovered around the USD 580-600/ton EXW band despite regional variations. In Izmir, rebar prices remained at USD 570/ton, while prices in the Marmara region were set at USD 595-600/ton ex-works. Icdas kept its official rebar price unchanged at USD 610/mt in dollar terms, while buyers were able to buy at USD 600/mt.
In the export market, Türkiye's rebar prices remained largely stable in the first half of August. Prices for September shipments were steady in the USD 575-580/ton FOB range. On the export side, the overall market remains sluggish and there is a cautious approach to new orders.
General market activities continue to slow down due to weak demand both domestically and internationally. Market players are having difficulty seeing ahead, especially due to the increase in energy costs and global economic uncertainties. In the coming period, if these negative conditions continue, it is assessed that new fluctuations may occur in rebar prices. It seems that producers will continue to optimize their costs and search for new markets to survive this difficult process.
