German and Austrian sellers forecast that the values could increase by €30-40 ($31-42) per ton. German and Austrian rail operators will also be subject to freight rate increases, which should be in the range of €10-15/ton compared to 2022. Negotiations have not started yet.
Eastern European sellers believe prices will increase by €30-50/ton. According to sources, the market is under extreme pressure, similar to what was seen in January and February last year. At the same time, exporters in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Slovakia say prices continue to increase in Asia and Turkey due to rebar shortages and growing demand.
French sellers also believe that this month's values will increase. However, French producers are not willing to pay increases of €30-40/tonne due to high energy costs and low demand for final products.
Italian producers plan to purchase large tonnages of imported material from Germany, France and Eastern Europe. For the international uptrend, they are in favor of reasonable price increases.
Turkish producers have increased their local scrap purchase prices since last week due to strong imported scrap values and strong local demand for rebar.
