Australian iron ore mining company Fortescue Metals Group has signed an agreement with the Gabon government to begin mining iron ore with an annual output of 2 million tons from the second half of 2023 in the Belinga deposit in eastern Gabon.
The Belinga project is operated by Ivindo Iron, a joint venture 80% owned by Fortescue and 20% by the African Transformation and Industrialization Fund.
The Belinga deposit is located 150 km from the existing Trans-Gabon railway, which can transport iron ore to the Libreville port.
