Contraction in the Turkish steel industry

Turkiye's export market is facing a serious contraction. Turkiye, which has a significant share in the Middle East, Africa and Europe regions, is fighting with many negative factors such as the global recession, weak investments, wars and increasing freight rates.

Sellers trying to compensate for the contraction in the export market with local market sales could not meet the expectations in the domestic market due to the changing tax refund problems and uncertainties regarding the withholding VAT application. The market is almost at a standstill in the last two weeks.

Spot rebar prices by region, as evaluated by www.steelradar.com on 19 January 2024, are as follows;

Istanbul rebar prices 23,000 TL (0.00) 761,78 USD

Izmir rebar prices 22.400 TL (-100) 741,91 USD (-3,31)

Karabuk rebar prices 22,400 TL (-100) 741,91 USD

Payas rebar prices 22,900 (-100) 758,47 USD (-3,31)

1 USD = 30,19 TL
