Turkey imported scrap and shipbreaking scrap prices did not satisfy expectations

After a period of increase in Turkey's imported scrap prices and shipbreaking scrap prices, the trend has changed direction.

Turkey imported scrap and shipbreaking scrap prices did not satisfy expectations

According to SteelRadar's assessments, Turkey's imported scrap prices have changed direction and started to decrease. Price offers between $430-435 were heard in the market in the past weeks.

While market sources reported that a producer in the Izmir region reached an agreement for a high-quality scrap at $460, the factory did not confirm it.

Today, it was heard that a producer in the Marmara region made a deal for European scrap Hms 80:20 at $427.5. With this latest deal, a relaxation is expected in Turkey's imported scrap prices, and it is predicted that the revival will depend on the demand trend.

Turkey shipbreaking scrap prices did not change their outlook

In the second half of March, the prices of shipbreaking scrap in Aliağa had increased to $448 with increased buying activity. Prices remained flat at $448 until the end of March, but on April 3, 2023, they dropped to an average of $433. Prices have remained flat at $433 for the past two weeks, as of April 12, 2023.

The scrap purchase prices of local factories in Turkey varied depending on the company

Since the beginning of the second week of April, scrap purchasing prices have decreased in local factories in Turkey. Isdemir has shown a decrease of between -100 to -200 TL, while Ege Çelik increased its scrap purchasing prices by +150 TL in the Izmir region the other day. Kar-demir İzmir, on the other hand, announced that it had suspended scrap purchasing on April 6th. There have been no changes in other factories since the first week of April.
