The USA scrap imports increase while exports decrease

Due to the very high domestic scrap prices the USA scrap imports in May rose 37 percent month on month to 329,000 tons, breaking the record for the last ten months. US scrap exports totaled 1.42 million tons, down 1.9% month on month and 5.3% year on year.

In May, the US imported approximately 300,000 tons of pig iron, more than three times the volume in April.

Among these, the main pig iron exporter of the USA was India with 119,000 tons, followed by Brazil with 117,000 tons and Russia with 48,000 tons.
