The Luxembourg government has taken steps to purchase Liberty Steel's bankrupt Dudelange plant

The Luxembourg government has submitted an official offer to purchase Liberty Steel's bankrupt Dudelange plant with the aim of supporting economic development and boosting employment. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Government Council.

The Luxembourg government has taken steps to purchase Liberty Steel's bankrupt Dudelange plant

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy on the same day, it was stated that the proposed purchase aims to contribute to economic revitalization at the national level by reevaluating the industrial site. The plant, which has largely remained idle since Liberty Steel's bankruptcy in 2024, remained in the spotlight as approximately 100 employees continued to work within the technically bankrupt company.

Authorities reported that redevelopment plans for the site are still under evaluation, while confirming that various alternatives, including defense industry projects, are on the table.

The government's intervention prevents the sale of the site to private investors, ensuring its restructuring under public oversight and evaluation for strategic uses. This step is expected to contribute to the revitalization of Luxembourg's industrial infrastructure.
