Ternium CEO Maximo Vedoya: U.S. and Mexico should cooperate more to promote production

Ternium Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maximo Vedoya stated that the United States and Mexico share a common will to promote manufacturing, and that this goal could be realized through greater cooperation in trade policies.

Ternium CEO Maximo Vedoya: U.S. and Mexico should cooperate more to promote production

Speaking at the 2025 Global Steel Dynamics Forum organized by the Association for Iron & Steel Technology and World Steel Dynamics, Vedoya emphasized that countries with similar views should act together in the fight against global overcapacity and unfair trade practices.

"The key to combating this is not to stand alone," stated Vedoya, noting that the U.S. and Mexican economies are integrated and that the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement) serves as a good starting point for this cooperation. Vedoya added that the current groundwork could be further advanced.

Vedoya also stated that there are opportunities to include Latin American and South American countries in this framework, but first, Mexico and Canada need to reach an agreement on a revised USMCA. The current version of USMCA is planned to undergo a joint review by the parties in 2026.

Officials noted that the 2025 Global Steel Dynamics Forum is an important platform where recent developments in the steel industry and global trade are discussed. The event is scheduled to take place on June 17–18 in New York.
