Tata Steel raises steel prices in the next decade

The global steel market is currently experiencing various challenges, including rising costs.

Leading steelmaker Tata Steel expects steel prices to trend much higher in the next ten years compared to the price levels seen in the last ten years. This statement was made by Chief Executive Officer T.V. Expressed by Nahendran.

According to him, hot rolled coil steel prices have averaged around $400 per metric ton over the past seven to eight years. He estimated that the long-term average for the product is expected to be more than $600 per metric ton. It should be noted that current prices are at $750 per metric ton in China and $850 per metric ton in Japan. Prices are likely to fluctuate higher than in the past, he added.

The global steel market is currently going through several challenges, including rising costs. Steel exported from China has dominated the global steel market for the past decade. However, there is more stability in the world steel trade now. Chinese steel exports have almost halved from their peak.
