Steel consumption in Thailand set to rise, prices expected to decline

Steel consumption in Thailand set to rise, prices expected to decline

The report indicates that consumption of long steel products is expected to rise to approximately 6.1 million tons, while flat steel products consumption is projected to reach around 10 million tons. It also notes that steel prices continue to decline. Accordingly, the price per ton for long steel products is approximately 20,900 baht, and for flat steel products, about 22,700 baht.

It was stated that steel production in the country has declined when evaluated based on capacity utilization rates. Production of certain types of steel exceeds domestic demand, while for other types, it remains significantly below the industry's total production capacity.

Following these developments, it was reported that the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has started reviewing its investment incentive policies for the steel sector.

On the other hand, it was noted that, under the coordination of the Steel Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries, a meeting was held with the participation of 10 steel associations in the country, where discussions were held regarding revisions to the incentive policies.
