Slow progress in EU quota usage: Countries take cautious stance

Based on data obtained from the European Commission, SteelRadar evaluated the quotas of countries in the second month of the new quota period between January 1 and March 31.

However, a slow progress in quota filling was observed in the weekly quota evaluation.

China, India and Türkiye stand out by using some of the products at full capacity from their allocated import quotas. These countries followed a similar course in filling quotas. However, in general, EU countries have a cautious attitude towards the use of quotas.

While China fully utilized the 4B metallic coated sheets quota of 126,603 tons, the pipe (other welded) quota of 7,971 tons and the sheet pile quota of 6,910 tons; India will supply all stainless bars and light profiles with an initial quota of 31,333 tonnes; Türkiye, on the other hand, used its entire quota of 14,743/t pipe (wide seam) and 1,536/t railway materials.

According to SteelRadar's analysis, in a period when quota usage exceeds 50% for some products, EU countries are generally adopting a more cautious approach to filling quotas. The effects of this slowdown in progress on the sector are being closely monitored.
