This price has increased by a total of NT900/tonne ($29.7) since February 22, as Taiwan's Feng Hsin Steel increased its scrap purchase prices by NT 400/ton ($13.2) on 13 March.
Taiwan, which prefers to use locally produced scrap, attributes this to high international scrap prices.
Steel scrap prices are high due to the limited supply of the country, which currently only uses its own steel.
