Distributors said that some customers have better visibility thanks to orders from the infrastructure sector, but the weak performance in private residential construction is weighing on rebar sales volumes.
Rebar prices were stable on a monthly basis following the deteriorating sentiment in the construction sector. Apart from some orders for infrastructure projects, most of the weekly rebar contracts are back-to-back. Distributors said that sales volumes may drop to 25-50 tonnes.
Lower-priced Italian and Spanish material in the south and German material in the north are reportedly competing with local rebar. According to sources, local rebar prices are hovering around €590-640/tonne ($661-717) including size extras, depending on tonnage.
