According to CNN International, the proposal emerged following technical and political consultations between Oman and Iran regarding navigation safety.
According to the report, the draft plans to establish two separate maritime corridors in the Strait of Hormuz, both of which would remain open simultaneously. The southern corridor would be located within Omani territorial waters, where the navigation system that existed before the conflict between the US-Israel and Iran would be maintained, allowing ships to continue passing freely.
A second route would be established in the north through Iranian territorial waters. Vessels wishing to use this route would be required to obtain prior authorization from the Iranian authorities. However, under a possible agreement between the parties, it was stated that no transit fees or service charges would be imposed on ships using this corridor.
Meanwhile, Oman and Iran agreed to continue technical and political discussions aimed at ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz within the framework of international law. In a statement issued by the Oman News Agency, it was noted that recent developments were discussed during the meetings held in Muscat and that the parties agreed to continue consultations in order to reach the necessary agreements in accordance with international law.
The talks were held as part of the official visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Muscat, the capital of Oman. During his visit, Araghchi met with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi to assess the latest situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
