Makran Steel reached 93% completion on hot briquetted iron plant in Chabahar

Makran Steel has announced 93% physical progress on its hot briquetted iron (HBI) production facility under construction in Iran’s southeastern Chabahar Free Trade and Industrial Zone. The mega-module project, which utilizes MIDREX technology, is expected to have an annual production capacity of 1.6 million tons.

Built on a total area of 300 hectares, this investment marks the first phase of the Makran Steel Complex. The company ultimately aims to establish an integrated steel plant with a total annual capacity of 3 million tons in the region. With the commissioning of the first phase, Chabahar is expected to gain an even more strategic position on Iran’s industrial map.

Makran Steel views this project not only as a production milestone but also as a critical driver of industrialization in the region. Following the commissioning of the facility, future development plans include a second HBI unit, a 2.5 million-ton pelletizing plant, a mini LNG production and storage unit, and the establishment of an automated terminal at Shahid Beheshti Port.

Aiming to boost exports, create jobs, and support regional development, Makran Steel positions itself to respond to both domestic and international demand through a fully integrated value chain.
