How did the production and export rates of steel products progress in Iran?

Iranian semi-finished product prices continue to decrease. According to traders' reports, 30,000 tonnes of Iranian billets were sold FOB at $490-495/t in southern Iranian ports.

In Turkey, traders offered $530-540/t DDP for Iranian billet prices.

Slab prices were exported at $490/t FOB. Mobarakeh Steel from Iran's southern ports exported to Europe and the Far East at $480/t FOB.

While the production rate in Iran is on the increase, the export figures are on the decrease.

Iran's exports of semi-finished products decreased by 4% y-o-y to 7.4 million tonnes, according to data released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA). This year, Iran's steel exports decreased by 6.1% y-o-y to 3.2 million tonnes, long products exports decreased by 3% y-o-y to 2.4 million tonnes and flat products exports decreased by 17.2% y-o-y to 468,000 tonnes.

The Iran Steel Producers Association (ISPA) reported that the country's total semi-finished products output was 30.43 million tonnes, up 8% y/y. Billet and bloom production increased by 12% to 18.74 million tonnes, while slab production increased by 4% to 11.69 million tonnes. Total steel production amounted to 21.59 million tonnes, up 10% y-o-y. Long product production was 12.53 million tonnes, up 12% y-o-y, while flat product production was 9.06 million tonnes, up 8% y-o-y.

In the March 2022-March 2023 period, Iran exported 5.32 million tonnes of billet and bloom from the Middle East-North Africa region, up 4% from 2021.
