Germany
According to SteelRadar data, the HRC market in Germany dropped by EUR 15 to EUR 690 at the start of the week on March 25, before falling by another EUR 25 to EUR 665 in the first week of April. CRC prices also started the new week down by EUR 35 to trade at EUR 735, while trade in the region remained limited, sources noted.
Steel plate 14-40 mm [EN 10025 (S235JR)] prices in Germany also witnessed a noticeable decrease, falling by around 2.26% to start the new week at EUR 665. The situation was different in the rebar market, where prices were stable at EUR 640 without any increase or decrease. Producers are expected to increase rebar offer prices in the coming days. According to SteelRadar data, the E40 market traded at EUR 378 during the week of March 3, continued to trade at the same price throughout the month and entered the month at EUR 378 on April 1.
Poland
In Poland, rebar prices traded at EUR 628 in the first week of April, down by EUR 7 from EUR 635 in the week ended March 25, and the downward trend is expected to continue.
According to SteelRadar data, wire rod [5.5-10mm] prices, which were trading at EUR 685 at the end of March, declined by EUR 17 to EUR 668 as of April 1.
Italy
HRC prices in Italy were down by 3.05% in the new week to be quoted at EUR 665, while the CRC market experienced a significant decrease of EUR 35, or 4.76%, reaching a long-lasting low of EUR 735. Steel plate 14-40 mm [EN 10025 (S235JR)] prices in Italy were also down by EUR 20, in parallel with the prevailing downturn in the steel market, and started the new week at EUR 725.
The rebar market in Italy started the first week of April with a decrease of EUR 5, with prices standing at EUR 570. However, rebar factories in Italy are trying to raise prices to maintain margins and rebar prices are expected to rise in the coming days. Italy's E3 scrap market, which traded at EUR 360, down by EUR 10 during the week of March 18, has been trading steadily at the same price as of April 1.
According to SteelRadar data, wire rod [ASTM A510] prices, which decreased by EUR 30 on March 25, were estimated to have remained unchanged at EUR 630 in the first week of April.
Spain
The HRC and CRC markets in Spain continued to remain stable in April. According to SteelRadar data, HRC [EN 10025] prices were stable at EUR 730, while CRC [EN 10130] continued to trade at EUR 813.
Rebar prices in Spain traded at EUR 605 during March and continued to trade at the same price in April, despite the changes across Europe. It is reported that buyers and sellers will remain calm on prices for the time being.
Netherlands
In the Netherlands, HMS 1/2 (80:20), which was traded at USD 351 on March 25, increased slightly to USD 355 during the week, and the scrap market, which closed the last week with an increase of USD 4, maintained the level of USD 359. Prices are expected to increase in direct proportion to the increasing demand and this increase is expected to continue in the short term.
United Kingdom
Prices of wire mesh in the UK showed an upward trend before the start of the second quarter. According to SteelRadar data, prices have been volatile amid the impact of buyers and quota announcements amid the slowdown in trade. Starting March at USD 585, wire mesh prices fluctuated throughout the month. In the week of March 25, they remained at the same level. Sources said that the volatile trend will continue but prices may increase in the short term.
On March 26, UK wire mesh started trading at USD 584.50 with a slight increase and managed to close March at USD 600. Despite a stable start to April, it showed a slight downward trend and continued at USD 596. However, it is currently trading at 588.50 USD, down 7.5 USD on April 3.
