US carbon steel plate prices hold steady as 2023 concludes despite fluctuating sales

In the last week of 2023, carbon steel plate prices in the United States have maintained stability, even amid sporadic sales. Mill pricing continues to display a diverse landscape, with Nucor leading the pack, followed by Cliffs and SSAB. The current price spectrum spans from $1,310 to $1,400 per short ton, while JSW and Evraz remain positioned at the lower end of the scale. Notably, in the same week of the previous year (2022), prices fluctuated between $1,460 and $1,490 per short ton, with all prices originating from domestic mills on an ex-works basis.

Industry experts anticipate a sluggish week in the market, and there are projections indicating a potential price upswing come February. As the year draws to a close, the carbon plate sector in the US remains resilient, navigating through sales fluctuations and evolving mill pricing dynamics.
