UK is cautious on EU quota usage

The UK is using EU quotas on various steel products and profiles with a cautious approach, according to SteelRadar's weekly reports.

As the end of 2023 approaches, EU quota utilization is coming to an end. Quota utilization was mostly slow throughout the year. In addition, the UK, which has quotas in 17 different product categories, did not utilize its quotas at full capacity in many categories.

The most striking utilization rate was observed in the 4A metallic coated sheets category. The UK performs well in this category, using 96.29% of its quota of 35,293 tons. However, overall, the country's utilization rates in other categories are lower.

Stainless HR quarto sheet and cold drawn bar do not seem to be in demand yet. Cold drawn bar with a utilization rate of 1.16% and stainless HR quarto sheet with a utilization rate of 0.12% stand out as the product categories with the lowest utilization rates.

It will remain to be seen how the country will utilize its unused quotas and how it will shape its quota policies in the coming period.
