Rebar prices, which rose before the sacrifice feast, continue to rise. Rebar prices, which were in the range of 17,300-17,800tl ($596-613) on Thursday, June 22, increased to 18,500-19,000tl ($600-630) on Friday, June 23.
While the prices opened in the new week showed a decrease in dollar terms, they increased in terms of Turkish lira. While one of Turkey's leading manufacturers, İçdaş A.Ş. announced rebar prices at $630 with a discount of $10, TL based prices increased by 54 TL.
Following İçdaş, Istanbul producers announced their rebar prices at $630-640, Izmir producers at $630 and Payas producers at $620. Although there was trading activity among traders in the market, end-user demand continued to appear weak.
In the scrap market, Turkish mills continue to buy HMS 80:20 at around $375-380/ton cfr Turkey. However, due to rising rebar prices and Turkey's scrap demand, scrap suppliers are also expected to increase their offers.
Global buyers, who stopped their purchases in the downward trend, took action with the recovery in prices. Turkish producers made high-tonnage sales to South America, Middle East, EU, UK and Africa last week. However, demand remained below the expected level.
