Turkish rebar producers maintain prices as the market trends upward

While export- and domestic demand-driven price increases continue in the Turkish rebar market, the sector remains cautiously optimistic with expectations of recovery starting from the second half of 2025.

Turkish rebar producers maintain prices as the market trends upward

As of May 20, Turkish rebar export prices showed an upward movement. Turkish producers continue to demonstrate their determination to maintain prices, while export sales also increased on a weekly basis. Meanwhile, Turkey experienced a slight decline in scrap import prices.

According to SteelRadar sources, Turkey’s rebar export price reached $555/ton on an FOB basis. The previous increase in scrap prices prompted Turkish long product manufacturers to raise their offers both in the domestic market and for exports.

On a regional basis, prices reached $555/ton in İzmir, while transactions in the Marmara Region took place around the $565/ton range. Although İçdaş’s official price remained fixed at $560/ton, it is reported that purchases were made at around $555/ton in the market.

Following a slowdown before the holiday break, market activity is expected to increase with the start of the construction season. Rising production costs, higher scrap prices, and a revival in commercial activities are among the factors supporting the prices.

On the other hand, the impacts of the U.S. anti-dumping measures on iron imports originating from Turkey are being closely monitored. A potential contraction in the U.S. market could redirect producers toward the domestic market. This may lead to an oversupply in the domestic market and put downward pressure on prices. However, for companies like İçdaş, which have a zero dumping rate, the export process to the U.S. is expected to proceed more smoothly. For other companies, cost increases may occur; nonetheless, this is not anticipated to pose a major problem. To maintain competitiveness, Turkish producers are likely to seek alignment in pricing strategies targeting the U.S. market.

At the Steel Summit held on May 15-16 in Çeşme, İzmir, market participants shared their general views on the market: “Uncertainties in scrap prices and high energy costs are causing the market to adopt a cautious approach. While global steel demand is expected to increase, the sector in Turkey is projected to enter a more stable period with rising capacity utilization rates and a revival in local demand. The general consensus is that uncertainties will continue in the short term, but a recovery trend may begin from the second half of 2025.”
