Taiwan's iron and steel import and export value decreased in December

According to the data announced by the Ministry of Finance, there was a significant decrease in the value of Taiwan's iron and steel exports in December 2023, reaching 1.35 billion dollars with an annual decrease of 5.9%.

In the same month, the country's iron and steel imports also decreased, with a total value of $761 million. This import indicates a decrease of 9.7% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Looking ahead to 2023 from a broader perspective, the iron and steel industry in Taiwan faces significant challenges. This year, there was a significant decrease in the value of the country's iron and steel exports, falling by 24.4% to 17.1 billion dollars.

Similarly, iron and steel imports showed a significant contraction on an annual basis, falling by 16.9% to $11.6 billion. This indicates a complex economic picture and underlines the impact of various factors on Taiwan's iron and steel trade dynamics over the period in question.
