Electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaker Nucor and Cleveland-Cliffs are pushing for hot-rolled coil (HRC) price minimums of $800/short ton (st). The companies announced the price minimums this morning, while Cleveland-Cliffs raised its hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) coil and cold rolled coil (CRC) prices.
Nucor set a minimum price of $1,000/st for heavy gauge HRC products above 3/4-inch. HRC prices are up by $80/st from mid-September lows. Nucor has also pushed HDG coil and CRC price minimums up to $1,050/st, but spot availability seems limited throughout the year. The announcements are the first since Cliffs pushed HRC prices to a minimum of $750/st in late September.
