Iran and Russia sign nuclear energy agreement

Iran and Russia have signed a new USD 25 billion agreement in the field of nuclear energy.

Iran and Russia sign nuclear energy agreement

Under the deal, four nuclear power units will be built in the city of Sirik, located in Iran’s Hormozgan province. Each unit will have a capacity of 1,255 megawatts, bringing the total planned electricity output to 5,020 megawatts.

The agreement was signed during the “Atom Expo 2025,” held as part of World Atom Week in Moscow. Naser Mansur Shariflu, a representative of Iran’s Hormoz Company, signed on behalf of Iran, while Dmitry Shiganov, representing Rosatom’s subsidiary REP Company, signed on behalf of Russia. Reports said engineering, environmental assessments, and part of the site preparations have already been completed, with remaining work still underway.

Just last week, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization chief Mohammad Eslami and Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev signed a memorandum of understanding in Moscow. Rosatom announced that the memorandum covered the construction of small nuclear power plants in Iran, though details on the number of units were not disclosed.
