Turkish steelmakers have slowed down their scrap demand considerably due to the high scrap prices in the face of the decline in product prices. Producers are struggling to cope with weak steel demand, falling steel prices and high energy costs.
The mills are out of work due to current scrap prices, scrap-to-rebar conversion cost rising to $300.
Two new deals were heard today, following the agreement at the beginning of the week for HMS 1&2 80:20 at $350/ton cfr Turkey.
