Australia's Fortescue Metals Group has signed an agreement with the government of Gabon. The Belinga deposit (east of Gabon), located 150 km from the existing Trans-Gabon railway, which can ship iron ore to the port of Libreville, will start mining iron ore from the second half of 2023 with an annual production of 2 million tons.
The Belinga project is being led by Ivindo Iron. It is a joint venture in which Fortescue owns 80% and the African Fund for Transformation and Industrialization owns 20%.
