Japan's Nikkei index fell 0.25 percent, while South Korea's KOSPI index fell 0.11 percent. While the Shanghai benchmark index fell 0.37 percent, Chinese locomotive shares rose 0.05 percent. Australian, Hong Kong and UK stock markets are closed for a holiday.
