Compared to November 2023, steel production increased by 69.9% in December 2023.

Steel production rates increased in European Union countries

In December 2023, steel production in EU countries reached 9.1 million tons, up 2.7% compared to December 2022, while in 2023, the EU produced 126.3 million tons of steel, down 7.4% year-on-year.

Global steel production dropped by 0.1% year-on-year to 1.850 billion tons compared to the same period previous year.

In addition, among the 5 active steel plants that directly affect steel production figures in Belgium, the blast furnace with an annual steel production capacity of 4.34 million tons is located in Ghent, while the other four plants owned by Aperam and ArcelorMittal use electric arc furnaces.
