New capacity to serve the electric vehicle sector
A significant portion of Xinyu Steel’s newly commissioned production capacity is planned to be supplied to the electric vehicle sector for use in the production of more efficient and higher performance electric motors. The remaining output will be supplied to the industrial and energy equipment sectors.
Fives supplies core process technologies
Equipment designed, supplied and commissioned by Fives at the new facility includes the thermal section of the ACL N4 annealing and coating line and DMS 20Hi EcoMill 20 high performance cold rolling mills.
The ACL N4 line uses low emission burners, controlled furnace atmospheres and rapid cooling technologies and was designed to meet the production requirements of high quality electrical steel.
The DMS 20Hi EcoMill technology can process steel at thicknesses of 0.1 mm and below. The system provides thickness control accuracy of up to +/- 2 microns, enabling the production of thin electrical steel used in electric motors.
Xinyu Steel’s production capacity
Xinyu Iron and Steel operates in Xinyu, Jiangxi province, and is part of China Baowu Steel Group. The company produces steel plate, electrical steel, hot and cold rolled coil, wire rod and various specialty steel products.
Xinyu Steel’s annual crude steel production capacity is approximately 10 million mt, while its steel plate production capacity is approximately 7 million mt.
