The new quarterly implementation period for EU Quotas started on 1 January 2022. However, it is observed that the quotas in the current quarter tend to fill up much faster than in the previous quarters.
As of the 2nd working day of the new quota period, the import tonnage in 16 quotas exceeded the quota limit. Among the 16 quotas, 5 Turkey, 5 China and 3 India country quotas took place.
By exporting above the quota amount in the categories 05-Organic Coated Sheets, 12-Commercial Bar and Light Profile, 21-Hollow Profiles, 13-Rebar and 20-Gas Pipes, Turkey guaranteed to fill the quota as of the 2nd day.
In addition, in the 4A Metal Coated Sheets quota, where Turkey does not have an individual country quota and benefits from the Other Countries quota, the said quota has already been exceeded by importing a higher amount than the quota limit.
The current quarter is likely to be very difficult for EU exporters, EU consumers and importers.
