Based on the data from the US Department of Commerce's Census Bureau, the US hot rolled coil (HRC) imports reached approximately 183,000 tons in December 2023. This marked a 38.4% increase compared to the preceding month and a 38% rise from the corresponding month in the previous year.
Canada had the largest share of imports
The highest proportion of imports came from Canada, amounting to approximately 103,000 tons, showing a 35% increase compared to the previous month and a 32% increase compared to the same period last year. Other countries that had a high proportion in imports imports were South Korea with 25,500 tons and Brazil with 23,000 tons.
Import value increased on a monthly and annual basis
In terms of import value, the total amounted to around US$145 million which marked a rise of 36.7% compared to the previous month and a growth of 36.2% on an annual basis.
