According to statistics from the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet), in the first four months of this year, Ukraine’s steel mill’s procurement of scrap decreased by 50.4% to roughly 620,000 tons year on year. At the same time, the scrap supply from Ukraine’s corporations dropped to around 580,000 tons as well, a year-on-year decrease of 47.1%. The scrap amount of steel mills' inventory was estimated below 60,000 tons.
In terms of exports from January to April, the total scrap exports from Ukraine were nearly 7,000 tons, decreasing by approximately 92% year on year. The imports from January to April were 1,000 tons, decreasing by 87% compared to the same period of last year.
Ukraine’s steel mill’s consumption of scrap was estimated to reach around 3.8 million tons in 2022.
