According to data compiled by SteelRadar analysts from the preliminary foreign trade statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and the Ministry of Trade, Türkiye's iron and steel import value declined by 12.1% year-on-year to USD 1,915.67 million in May.
During the month, iron and steel ranked as Türkiye's fifth-largest import category by value.
In the January–May period of this year, the country's iron and steel import value increased by 0.5% year-on-year to USD 9.35 billion.
Meanwhile, articles of iron or steel ranked as Türkiye's 15th-largest import category by value during the month.
Imports of articles of iron or steel decreased by 4.3% year-on-year to USD 326.93 million in May, while the total for the first five months of the year rose by 10.6% year-on-year to USD 1.90 billion.
