According to the February 2023 data announced by the World Steel Association, world crude steel production amounted to 142.3 million tons with a decrease of 1% compared to the same month of the previous year, and 297.8 million tons with a decrease of 0.8% in the first 2 months of the year.

In the first 2 months of the year, China's crude steel production increased by 5.6% compared to the same period of 2022 to 168.7 million tons, while India's crude steel production, which ranked second, increased by 1% to 21.2 million tons, and Japan's production decreased by 6.1% to 14.1 million tons.

Due to the earthquake that occurred in February 2023, as a result of production cuts in our steel plants, which have about 32% of Turkey's crude steel production capacity and production located in the Iskenderun and Osmaniye regions, there was a 28.9 percent decrease in production compared to the same month of the previous year, and the Turkish steel sector ranked 10th after Germany, Brazil and Iran with a crude steel production of 2 million 104 thousand tons.
