Tosyali Algerie and Sonatrach partner on green hydrogen production

Tosyali Algerie and Sonatrach, a major energy company in Africa and globally, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Tosyali Algerie and Sonatrach partner on green hydrogen production

The memorandum of understanding was signed at Sonatrach headquarters, witnessed by Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi and Tosyalı Iron Steel Industry Algérie SPA Board Member Fuat Tosyalı.  This memorandum of understanding outlines a joint feasibility study by Sonatrach and Tosyalı for the production of green hydrogen in Algeria. This green hydrogen, derived from renewable energy sources, will be used in the production of “green steel” at Tosyalı's iron and steel industry facility in Algeria.

This agreement aims to reduce Tosyalı's natural gas consumption and supports Algeria's national hydrogen strategy. This strategy includes goals to reduce both natural gas consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The new partnership sends a strong signal regarding the substitution of fossil fuels with green hydrogen in Algerian industry.

Tosyalı Holding announced the agreement on its social media accounts, stating:

"As Tosyalı Algerie, we are proud to sign a memorandum of understanding with Sonatrach, one of the largest energy companies in Africa and a leading player globally, for the production of green hydrogen in Algeria and its use in the steel industry for a sustainable future."
