Organized by the International Geography Union (IGU), the 34th International Geography Congress will be hosted by the Turkish Geography Institute and Istanbul University. Due to the coronavirus epidemic, which continues to threaten the world, conferences will take place virtually, while approximately 700 presentations will be made in 175 sessions. During the congress, natural disasters as well as climate change will be discussed by internationally successful scientists. Nearly 800 geographers and academics from 75 countries on 5 continents will attend the congress. The largest participation in the congress came from China, Japan, India, Spain and Russia.
International Geographical Union (IGU) Vice President and Istanbul University Geography Department Head Prof. Dr. Barbaros Gönençgil and the President of the Turkish Geography Institute Assoc. Dr. Experts in their fields will take the floor at the event, which will be moderated by Ahmet Ertek. President of the Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences, climate scientist Prof. Gordon Mcbean, University of Cape Town physical geographer Prof. Michael Meadows from the Netherlands, Dr. Eduardo de Mulder, Director of the Global Environment Fund from the USA, Dr. Juha I. Uitto is one of the celebrities who will speak at the conference.
