The new regulation foresees placing the product under the list of continuously controlled products list items within the scope of TIS 1479-2566 standard. TISI Secretary General Ekniti Ramyayanon emphasized that the revision aims to align the standard with current production technologies and practices, clarifying the mechanical properties and chemical composition of the steel. Ramyayanon added that this step is intended to enhance safety, strength, and durability, thereby strengthening public confidence.
With the new standard coming into effect, manufacturers and importers currently licensed under the old standard must reapply through TISI’s E-license system to comply with the updated requirements. Currently, there are 65 licensed manufacturers and 96 importers of this product in Thailand.
Strict penalties are foreseen for producing or importing non-compliant products. Violations can result in up to two years imprisonment, fines of up to 2 million baht, or both penalties applied together.
TISI currently has 237 steel-related standards, 213 of which are general and 24 mandatory. In addition, five new steel standards are pending implementation, covering various alloyed and coated galvanized flat steel sheets, as well as carbon steel pipes for general structural applications. According to the announcement, these regulations aim to further enhance quality and safety in Thailand’s steel sector.
