Indian steel group Tata Steel has once again announced that it has put the Thailand division of Tata Steel up for sale. In 2019, the company tried to sell it to the Chinese HBIS Group, but later this deal did not materialise.
According to Tata Steel, the sale of its Thai business is driven by the company's desire to focus on the more promising and rapidly growing domestic steel market. It also states that the profitability level of Indian businesses is higher than that of foreign businesses.
In early October, Tata Steel sold its Singapore subsidiary to NatSteel.
According to foreign sources, the market value of Tata Steel Thailand is estimated at around $410 million. The company has three mills that produce long products: rebar, wire rod and flats. Total capacity is about 1.7 million tons per year. On average, about 10-12% of products are exported to neighboring countries - Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
