The project is expected to support Tata Steel’s decarbonization targets by generating approximately 166 million units of renewable electricity annually and contributing to the avoidance of around 118,856 tons of carbon emissions.
Developed by TPREL, a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited, the project combines large-scale solar power generation with advanced technology solutions. The company said the investment will support Tata Steel’s transition toward low-carbon production while contributing to the expansion of India’s renewable energy capacity.
Project uses 171,360 solar modules
The 72.5 MW project uses a total of 171,360 solar modules manufactured by TP Solar Limited for Tata Steel.
TPREL said the project demonstrates its engineering and execution capabilities, highlighting its ability to deliver technology-intensive renewable energy investments within challenging project timelines.
The company also said it continues to invest in clean energy infrastructure aimed at strengthening grid resilience, supporting industrial decarbonization and accelerating India’s transition to low-carbon energy.
TPREL’s renewable energy capacity reaches 12.3 GW
With the commissioning of the new project, TPREL’s total renewable energy capacity has reached 12.3 GW, of which approximately 7 GW is operational.
Solar power accounts for 5.7 GW of the company’s operational capacity, while wind power accounts for 1.3 GW. Around 5.3 GW of capacity is currently at various stages of development and execution, comprising 2.2 GW of solar and 3.1 GW of wind projects.
These projects are expected to be commissioned progressively over the next 6-24 months.
Of TPREL’s total 12.3 GW renewable energy portfolio, 9.7 GW consists of capacity covered by power purchase agreements.
Serving industries ranging from energy to steel
TPREL provides renewable energy solutions to a wide range of sectors, including energy, data centers, communications, information technology, petrochemicals, steel, automotive, fast-moving consumer goods and biotechnology.
The company aims to contribute to India’s target of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030, as well as Tata Power’s sustainable energy transition strategy.

Expanding solar cell and module production capacity
TPREL operates a facility in Bengaluru with a solar cell production capacity of 530 MW and a solar module production capacity of 682 MW.
The company’s 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, is one of India’s largest single-location cell and module manufacturing facilities.
TPREL also provides electric vehicle charging solutions and various consulting services in the renewable energy sector.
The company’s solar EPC portfolio comprises more than 16.7 GWp of ground-mounted utility-scale projects and over 5 GWp of rooftop and distributed ground-mounted solar capacity. Through integrated green energy solutions, TPREL aims to provide energy access to millions of people across India.
Tata Power’s total capacity stands at 16.3 GW
Tata Power Company Limited, part of the Tata Group, has a total energy portfolio of 16.3 GW.
The company’s activities cover renewable and conventional power generation, transmission, distribution, energy trading, storage solutions, and solar cell and module manufacturing.
Approximately 46% of Tata Power’s total capacity, equivalent to 7.5 GW, comes from clean energy sources.
