On 1 July 2024, the European steel plate market is moving with different dynamics. In Italy, steel plate prices increased by a significant EUR 20 to EUR 690. Sources cite one of the main reasons behind this increase as the continuation of general cost pressures across Europe. Increases in energy and raw material costs in particular are affecting production costs and pushing prices up.
In Germany, the situation is different. Prices for steel plates to [EN 10025 (S235JR)] standard increased by EUR 10 to EUR 755 on a weekly basis. Local demand and production capacity limitations may have contributed to this increase. However, CFR Antwerp prices for 14-40 mm [EN 10025 (S235JR)] thick steel plates fell by EUR 25 to EUR 615. Sources said that demand and supply imbalances in certain product segments played a role in this decline.
