SSAB appoints Johnny Sjöström as new CEO

Swedish steel giant SSAB has appointed a new CEO. The company announced that Johnny Sjöström, who currently heads the company's Special Steels division, will take over as SSAB's new CEO and President on October 28th.

SSAB appoints Johnny Sjöström as new CEO

Mr. Johnny Sjöström will succeed Mr. Martin Lindqvist, who is departing from his role to focus on his board career, as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SSAB.

Sjöström, who has been Head of SSAB Special Steels since 2019, has overseen several important projects during his time in the role. Most notably, he led the transition to environmentally friendly production systems at the Oxelösund facility. This project is seen as a major step in SSAB's sustainability strategy.

Under Sjöström's leadership, the transformation of the Oxelösund facility aims to strengthen SSAB's leading position in green steel production while contributing to the company's carbon emission reduction goals. Sjöström's career includes roles as CEO of Uddeholm and various senior management positions at Outokumpu Stainless Oy.

SSAB Chairman of the Board Lennart Evrell praised Sjöström's appointment, stating that his "Johnny possesses strong technical expertise and extensive experience in the industry, both in the Nordic region and internationally. His background and experience make him the ideal candidate to lead SSAB into the future." Current CEO Lindqvist will remain in his position until October 27th, when the transition will be complete.
