The first iron ore shipment from the Simandou project has successfully arrived in China on January 17, marking the official entry of Simandou ore into the international market.
The Winning Youth, a bulk carrier with a capacity of 200,000 tons, delivered high-grade iron ore loaded in Guinea to Majishan Port in Zhoushan, China, after a 46 day voyage. Covering approximately 11,000 nautical miles, this inaugural shipment signifies the full commissioning of the integrated mine–railway–port–maritime logistics chain.
Recorded as the first export by Winning Consortium Simandou and its project partners, the shipment stands as a key indicator of the operational maturity of the Simandou logistics system. The achievement also highlights growing confidence in large-scale mining infrastructure in Africa.
According to experts, the commissioning of Simandou is expected to have a strategic impact on global iron ore supply. Once the project reaches full capacity, it is set to deliver long-term benefits to Guinea’s economy while supporting the global steel industry’s sustainable sourcing objectives.
