Russia announced the risks of carbon tax!

Metallurgists, timber producers and representatives of the chemical industry in the risk zone. At the same time, the deputy minister listed companies that carried out environmental modernization of production.

Viktor Evtukhov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade at ESG, said Russia's core industries, including metallurgy, chemical industry and forestry complex, are most at risk from the introduction of a cross-border carbon tax in the EU. )

“I would choose two enterprises - the Lebedinsky mining and processing plant and the electrometallurgical plant in Oskol. They are leaders in the production of directly reduced iron. The volume is large - about 9 million tons. The direct reduced iron making process is the most environmentally friendly way to produce iron ore (iron ore raw materials - RBK).

He also drew attention to the United Metallurgical Company (OMK), which began the construction of a metallurgical complex, where it is planned to introduce technology for direct reduction of iron. Investments in production amounted to about 100 million rubles.

Yevtukhov emphasized that RUSAL is currently also carrying out the environmental modernization of factories in Bratsk, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk and Novokuznetsk. “Investments amounted to about 380 million rubles. The primary production of aluminum using a single technology is being shut down, the technology of the same company will be introduced, but with the prefix "eco", - explained.

In his speech at the congress, David Yakobashvili, Vice President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, drew attention to the fact that the whole world is now moving towards a more environmentally friendly business world. According to him, Russia is "a little" behind and should close this gap. “I think in Russia when a business takes something, it does it faster than anyone else and can catch up,” he said.

According to him, the situation, along with the spread of the coronavirus, as well as changes in the environment, has pushed the company towards the environmental agenda by "leaps and limits".
